Аннотация: Dehydration of seven alcohols C2-C4 in a solution of polyphosphoric acid (82.3% P2O5) is studied. The reaction is shown to proceed according to the pseudo-first order rate law, and the reactivity of the alcohols is formally described by either the Taft equation logkapp = 4.79 - 0.82?n - 10.3?* (correlation coefficient r = 0.95, ?n Показать полностьюis the number of hydrogen atoms that participate in hyperconjugation) or by the equation logkcorr = -5.76 - 13.0?p (r = 0.94). The conclusion is drawn that the reaction proceeds via the transition state in which a significant charge separation takes place. The experimental data are best described if one suggests that the transition complex has a structure close to that of the ?-complex of hydrogen with the double bond of an olefin.
