Аннотация: The indigenous peoples of Eastern Siberia are being affected by a host of global changes. Their traditional culture is particularly vulnerable to global expansion, urbanization, and the influence of modern popular culture. These peoples' modern existence depends on political management undertaken by the federal and regional governmПоказать полностьюents in the territories where the indigenous peoples are boxed in. In 2010-2016, field research was conducted in the regions of Eastern Siberia inhabited by the aboriginal peoples, including such ethnic groups as the Dolgans and Kumandins. Ethnic self-identification processes among the Dolgans and the Kumandins are contradictory to each other. Their assimilation into the Russian-speaking environment and threats of disappearance of their native languages have a different influence on the Dolgans' and the Kumandins' ethnic self-identification. The Dolgans' ethnic self-identification is being increased. The Kumandins' ethnic self-identification, meanwhile, is decreasing. These processes are affected by political management, economic, and legal mechanisms as well as by the subjective value of the ethnic manifestation of various aboriginal and cultural groups of Eastern Siberia.
