Аннотация: An investigation has been performed into the wetting of gallium-gadolinium garnet monocrystals by B2O3-PbO melts and by liquid boron oxide which is one of the components of the melt used for producing various garnets. The wetting angles, ?, are estimated in air under the leak - in of the melt on solid surfaces with an error of 3%. Показать полностьюMicroscopic analysis reveals a halo ahead of the B2O3-drop. It is found that the welting angle on Gd3Ga5O12 between 823-1273 K slowly reaches the steady state (?)0 (within 2.5-0.5 h), which is attributed to the liquid boron oxide high viscosity. Lower values of ? due to the temperature rise are usually associated with the chemical melt-substrate interaction (diffusion, dissolution). The effect of PbO on the Gd3Ga5O12 wetting has been studied using B2O3-PbO melts as a solvent.
