Аннотация: The quasi-stationary MHD-flow of the solar wind around the Earth's magnetosphere is reviewed. Primary attention is accorded to the magnetic and electric fields in the transition layer and at the boundary of the magnetosphere. The kinetic approximation for a linear diffusion model is analysed. The existence condition for a magnetic Показать полностьюbarrier region where the kinetic approximation is not applicable is determined. The results of a numerical integration of the MHD-equations in the magnetic barrier region are used to analyse the fall-off in the gas-dynamic pressure and the growth in the magnetic pressure to a maximum on the surface of the flow. The problem of calculating the reconnection region on the background of the magnetic barrier is considered. The inclusion of the Petschek reconnection model in the general solution of the flow problem yields electric and magnetic fields that are consistent with the experimental values at the boundary of the magnetosphere.
