The problem of subsurface radar is considered in more detail for non-traditional directions of its applying in particular for the sensing of conducting media at the maximum range. The possibility of realization of the electromagnetic radar operating in sea water at a depth exceeding the skin layer depth in the form of combined transmitting and receiving antennas, as well as the ability to create instruments for geophysical applications are described. The problem of determining the optimal shape of the probe signal for the problems of electromagnetic subsurface location is also presented. Presented the theoretical justification and experimental results of the optimum probe signal form for maximizing the signal / synchronous noise ratio.
