Study of photoinduced magnetism in crystals on a SQUID magnetometer

Аннотация: We present the results of an experimental and theoretical investigation of photoinduced change inthe magnetic moment in FeBO, crystals. A SQUID magnetometer, equipped with an opticalpumping system, was employed in the experiment. By studying the field, temperature, and timedependences of the photoinduced change in the magnetic momeПоказать полностьюnt at various optical powers wewere able to determine the mechanism responsible for the change in the magnetic state underirradiation. All experimental results are explained within a model where the crystal matrix isdescribed in the continuous approximation and the photocenter (supposedly and Fe2+ ion) isdescribed as a quasi-Ising ion with 3 = 1, exchange-coupled to one of the magnetic sublattices ofthe crystal. Under irradiation the populations of the levels in the ground-state multiplet areredistributed in a manner such that, because of the selection rules for optical transitions, the moreanisotropic level is predominantly populated. The model employed made it possible to calculateand explain the anisotropic properties of FeBO, crystals and the spin-reorientation transition inthe basal plane at low temperatures.
