Аннотация: Special consideration was given to the history of the formation and activities of the Tomsk agricultural colony for minors in the late period of the Russian Empire. Innovative ideas and factors, significantly leveling the effectiveness of the charitable organization, are noted. Analysis of scientific and journalistic literature, archival documents allowed to conclude that, with the undisputed role of the financial component, the success of the shelter's work depended to a great extent on the personal ties of the founders, the skills and skills of the staff, the understanding of correctional education, and the proper organization of the pedagogical process. The obtained factual data contribute to the creation of a holistic view of the level of development of penitentiary institutions in prerevolutionary Russian society in general and the Siberian region in particular.
